An increasing number of organizations are active in reinforcing their social involvement. In many cases, this takes the form of financial support for a social organization. However, JHK Architecten finds it important to make an active contribution specifically from their own knowledge and expertise.
We take part in the debate within the professional community as much as we can. JHK Architecten is a member of the Royal Institute of Dutch Architects (BNA), where the management is represented in the members' council and the Board of Trustees. We are actively associated with diverse educational organizations, as teacher or visiting lecturer. We offer students the opportunity to make acquaintance with actual practice in the form of internships or look-round work experience. We give lectures and contribute to the 'Day of the Architecture' in Utrecht.
In the field of durability, we are participating in a study carried out by the BNA relating to the calculation of environmental performance as required in the Building Regulations. Through our membership of the Dutch Green Building Council (DGBC), we give substance to CSR by participating in a working group concerned with further development of the BREEAM method.
Together with FGB Facility Group, we are helping the Breath Care for Kids foundation to develop a multi-functional day-care centre in the rural community of Costuleni in Romania. With this plan, which is focused on after-school support and small-scale care for young children and children with a handicap, we hope we can provide the residents of Costuleni with the child care and help so lacking at the moment, and thereby improve the opportunities for work for the parents and ultimately for the children themselves. The plan was received most enthusiastically by the partners involved in Romania and can be used by the Breath Care for Kids foundation to raise the necessary sponsorship money.
